Four Sisters And An Internship: Which Type of Student Intern Are You?
Ah finally, here comes the sun!
It’s this time of the year again when students are officially on vacation mode! They’re up all night, sleeping all day, and recharging themselves before another grueling semester or school year starts. From chill hangouts to weekend getaways, the whole squad is ready!
On the flip side, there are also students who would rather skip the beach and spend summer at the office taking up an internship. Are you one of them? It’s okay. It’s for your own benefit, too! Since an internship is a good way to get the feel of your future work anyway, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t enjoy it as much as you would an out-of-town trip.
To prep you for the role, here are five different types of student interns you can learn from, as told by our favorite siblings, the Salazars. *Calls for Toti Marie*
Teddie: The Favorite
If you’re like Teddie, you’re most likely everyone’s favorite. Your boss, your workmates, even your office messenger loves you! Your sense of humor makes work days full of laughter—sometimes, at the expense of others! Yikes!
When it comes to work, you’re no less than hardworking and competitive. You might want to watch out on that though since you have the tendency to be too hard on yourself.
Remember, internships are meant to bring out the best in you. Internships help develop those skills you need to work on. You don’t need to have it all together (even if you don’t). Ask for help if necessary! Quit pleasing everyone in the office and embrace learning even if it means failing at times. Did you honestly think hindi ka maiintindihan ng boss mo?
Bobbie: The Overachiever
Impressive academic record. An extensive vocabulary. Never uses inane and poorly worded language to describe people she just met. And work ethic? Kahit anong gawin, ang galing-galing. If this fits you perfectly, then you imbibe Bobbie as an intern. You’re the overachiever intern who gets things done perfectly down to the last detail that often intimidated others. Don’t worry, hindi mo kasalanan!
While you may come off as cold and detached most of the time, you are actually sensitive and willing to sacrifice for the best of your team. Maybe you just need to open up a little to your work colleagues? Vulnerability, when done right, is a beautiful thing.
Alex: The Clueless Intern
There’s always that one person in the office who feels like a square peg in a round hole. Always the last one to know, and the last to come around, and sometimes the last one to arrive at the office, too. In reality, you’re utterly lost and plainly misunderstood. If that pulls at your heart, then you might be an Alex in the office. Are you?
You might be clueless most of the time, but your passion and dedication to your work are unparalleled. Even if most of your efforts are taken for granted. Where in the world can you find an intern like that? While your independence and diskarte at work get you in real trouble, always remember that every effort you put to learn and change to be a better intern makes your boss proud. Even if you don’t know it.
Gabbie: The Caring Intern
Are you always on the lookout if someone needs help? Are you the go-to person for preparing and organizing stuff? Do you like cooking for the team? If these things come naturally to you, then Gabbie is your twintern.
Your workmates love having you around because it feels like having a mother in their midst. (Thanks to your maternal instinct!) They can depend on you when things go crazy at work. No wonder your wisdom and strong sense of responsibility make you an old soul among your co-interns! While everyone appreciates your help, don’t forget to put yourself first and enjoy your internship too. After all, you are still learning yourself.
Rebreb: The Bunso
In the world of grown-ups, being the youngest has its ups and downs. Ups that you’re treated with the utmost care and often given the benefit of the doubt, and downs that you’re often doubted to make big decisions on your own. Why would they let the youngest intern handle a big project, right? If you feel the same way, then you’re like Rebreb!
Amidst these doubts, your actions and sincerity prove that you’re no baby. Age doesn’t disqualify you to sit at the grown-up table, but rather it gives you an edge that makes people wish they had your charm and innocence. As you go through your internship, don’t lose your childlike heart. Be mindful of the wisdom imparted by your ates and kuyas in the office. You need both of it to thrive in the workplace!
Which type of intern are you? Whether you identify with Teddie, Bobbie, Alex, Gabbie, Rebreb, or a little bit of all, learn from each one and make the most out of your internship experience!
Being an intern is one of the best ways to learn since you’re technically still a student yet given real work tasks of a professional. So give it your best shot! After all, doon magiging proud sa’yo si mama.
