8 Awesome Reasons to Take the Road Less Traveled with Baliuag University’s Social Work and Library and Information Science Programs

All this time, we have been used to thinking that courses such as Medicine, Architecture, Law, or Computer Science are the most glamorous and exciting among others. And that because they’re that glamorous, careers in these paths would be naturally successful.

If you don’t feel like the degree programs mentioned above are for you, don’t despair! There’s also a fruitful future waiting for you—if you dare to take the road less traveled and explore courses such as Social Work and Library and Information Science.

For the longest time, these two have been thought of as unproductive, unexciting, and just uninspiring.

Well, we’re here to debunk all those misconceptions by sharing with you eight awesome reasons to take these courses for your undergraduate studies. Read on!

Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSSW) program

1. Social Work is not just “free work”!

Social Work is also a profession. It’s a “helping profession,” to be exact. So if you naturally enjoy helping others and supporting their well-being, this is a great field for you to use your hobbies, interests, strengths, and life experiences to do so.

Moreover, there’s a wide variety of roles you can explore; whether you want to be a community welfare advocate, court social worker or capacity-building professional, you’ll never run out of options!

2. There’s a high demand for social work professionals.

In the Philippines and in many parts of the world, social work is among the hard-to-fill and in-demand jobs. This is because we never really run out of human-induced disasters, conflicts, and crises to deal with. The world is always in need of social workers who have the heart to respond to the needs of the more vulnerable sectors and help ensure their well-being.

Considering this, there are a lot of opportunities you can explore domestically or internationally. To add to that, you can also find work in the corporate sector as well as in foreign and diplomatic services and humanitarian affairs.

3. It helps you improve yourself.

This field will definitely shape you into an educated and selfless individual. You may not be aware of it, but as you study to support, advocate, empower, and educate others, you’re also doing the same to yourself through the process. Amazing, right?

Not a lot of degree programs and training can do this for you. So, if you’re looking for a way to improve yourself holistically, a Social Work degree is definitely worth exploring.

4. It gives you the chance to change people’s lives—and the world.

A career as a social worker can be exhausting at times, but it can also be really rewarding and fulfilling. After all, this profession gives you the opportunity to make a tangible difference in people’s lives.

You will be the shoulder people can lean on in their toughest and most emotional situations, and this positively impacts their lives. Ultimately, you also get to learn from these experiences and grow into a stronger and wiser individual.

BONUS: After your study, you will earn a professional title, “RSW” or Registered Social Worker, once you pass the Licensure Examination for Social Workers administered by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).

Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLIS) program

1. It’s more than just organizing and shelving books!

Being a librarian is not just about wearing glasses, reading and shelving books all day in a library!

Your career will mainly be about helping people access the information they need, such as historical records, statistics, articles or scientific research. You also refer them to other helpful data from credible sources.

In a way, you’re contributing to the continuous advancement of knowledge across different fields. How awesome is that?

2. It allows you to work either in the private or public sector.

A degree in Library and Information Science gives you the opportunity to work in whatever sector you choose. Also, contrary to popular belief, you are not limited to working as a school or university librarian.

Actually, you can land an interesting job at museums or corporate establishments, or you can also work in the medical and legal fields! Lastly, there are different roles you can assume; you can be an Information Specialist, a Researcher, Records Manager, or a Data Scientist.

3. It allows you to work in the academe without having to teach.

This path also allows you to be an academic librarian who mainly works on an institution’s research activities. You get to access and consume the best information available, and you have the task to relay these to researchers.

BONUS: After your study, you will earn a professional title, “RL” or Registered Librarian, once you pass the PRC Librarians Licensure Examination. And because Baliuag University’s Library and Information Science curriculum is three-in-one, it can also qualify you to take the Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers.

4. It’s a great way to continue learning.

There’s always a wide variety of topics to research on in librarianship. If you’re someone who loves learning new things each day, this will be an exciting field where you can pursue your love for knowledge all you want!

Additionally, you have the opportunity to learn and use the latest information technologies to efficiently store and organize the information you’re entrusted with.

Why take the road less traveled with Baliuag University?

If you’re going to take the road less traveled, it’s a smart move to go on the journey with a school you know you can trust!

You can rely on Baliuag University (BU) to receive the high-quality education you deserve as it is the first school in Region III to be granted full autonomy by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

Also, over the past years, the school has consistently produced top-notchers and registered librarians in the annual Librarians Licensure Examination (LLE) and social workers in the Licensure Examination for Social Workers.

Its campus is conducive to academic and social development, and you’ll surely find lots of opportunities to pursue your interests here, whatever they may be!

Online enrollment is still ongoing, so be sure to check out their website for the application process and requirements.
