5 Hobbies that can be Potential Businesses
Here’s to the things we were forced to put aside because we were made to believe that they weren’t worth pursuing.
With summer fast approaching, we can’t help but lament over the stolen road trips and sunset campfires with friends. But what if I told you that hot girl summer can be a one-man show? Although the pandemic closed many doors for a majority of us, it has also opened a plethora of opportunities to enter e-commerce. This could very much be the sign you’ve been waiting for. You know, to start that business you’ve been putting off for a while. This year, challenge yourself to revisit old hobbies and see where they take you.
Here’s to the things we were forced to put aside because we were made to believe that they weren’t worth pursuing.
1. Selling reworked items
While everyone else was playing F.L.A.M.E.S or making paper fortune tellers, you were probably the kid who brought Harumika dolls and was the number one supplier of crayons and colored pencils during exam week. It’s your time to shine! With the environmental movement for sustainable and slow fashion, you can live out your designer dreams while being eco-friendly. Textile waste is no joke, and your talent could make all the difference between a garment’s second life or a sentence to the bin.
2. Crochet
Did you know that crochet stitches can’t be replicated by machines? If you love freehand work or coming up with your own patterns, you might want to revisit those granny squares you made in sixth grade. This summer, lots of brands have been coming out with their own variations of granny square dresses for three times their rightful price, but exactly how sustainable are they? People would definitely purchase something that was made especially for them, and you’d be helping the planet in the process!
3. Jewelry Making
Before Silly Bandz and Rainbow Loom, there were the good old beads and nylon string. Seed beads, puka necklaces, and woven anklets have been making a comeback recently. But even as trends come and go, there’s nothing like a good accessory to spice up an outfit. Time to go fishing in your closet for those bead containers, who knows what you’ll come up with?
4. Baking
Doesn’t a spoonful of sugar make the medicine go down? In the most delightful way, your sweet treats could possibly turn someone’s frown upside down! We all miss the days when hanging out at a friend’s involved making a mess in their kitchen, but you can definitely show some love by sending them a box of cookies. Plus, it’s free advertising if they post it on IG!
5. Freelance
Here’s to the multitalented few. What’s it like being God’s favorite? Your options range from content creation to freelance modeling. You could even take on commissions if you aren’t the type to commit to a single brand. The entire point is that you decide which projects you take on, and which ones you don’t. Explore your talents and find your niche!
As we spend another summer in quarantine, it won’t harm you to go back to old hobbies, or even learn new ones that interest you. As long as you love what you do, making a business out of it and earning money is a bonus. If you decide to actually make a career out of it, we can help too!
