3 Reasons Why Fruits Will Save the World

4 min read

Dec 04, 2020

Okay, that may be a bit dramatic, but it’s kinda true. Especially now that we can’t really leave our houses—an apple, or any fruit a day, can keep the doctor away and boredom at bay.

Fruits play a significant role in our lives. Beyond the obvious fact that we eat them, fruits are good for you, good for the economy, and good for the environment. They can help you against this pandemic. They might even lead you to your future course or career!

And the great thing about this is that the Philippines is home to so many awesome fruits. It’s one of the reasons why we should be grateful for our rich natural resources. But if you need more convincing, read on to find out why fruits truly are national and natural treasures.

Reason #1: They Boost Your Immunity

In a world turned upside down by the coronavirus pandemic, one of our biggest coats of armor would be our own immune systems. Apart from handwashing, wearing face masks, and maintaining our physical distance by staying home, boosting our body’s built-in resistance to viruses is essential. One of the best ways to do that is by eating fruits, like the Philippines’ very own calamansi.

It’s not just great for your sawsawan and pancit. Since our bodies don’t naturally produce vitamins, we have to get it from the food we eat.  In calamansi’s case, it’s packed with nutrients like vitamin C which boosts the immune system to fight sickness and promotes collagen production for healthier skin. (Maybe we should we start calling it “vitamin calaman-C”?? Hehe)

Reason #2: They Can Boost Your Career (And Your Budget For The Next Online Sale)

This seems less obvious, but if you think about it, fruits can inspire your next academic achievement. You may be stuck at home now, but there are many science experiments that you can do using fruits, like this lemon-powered battery, for example. Maybe you can adapt that experiment using local citrus fruits like dalandan and see if it also works!

If you’re more into Arts & Design rather than STEM, fruits can also play a role in your interests and passions. Beginner artists are often asked to do still-life paintings of fruit bowls, but you can take this to the next level by actually creating pigments and dyes using fruits. Even aspiring musicians might want to take a closer look at fruits, like this guy on YouTube who carves and makes music out of fruits!

Budding entrepreneurs and ABM students also have a lot to gain from fruits. Fruits have many by-products or alternative uses, in different industries, like using coconut fiber to make mattresses, or using pomelo peels as insect repellent.

The best part? Regardless of which strand you’re taking, you can make money out of your idea! Check out some of the sales and marketing basics courses on our platform to help you get started. Why not make a little extra money in between online classes, right? Fruits have so much business potential, which actually brings us to our third reason.

Reason #3: They Boost The Economy

It’s no secret that the Philippines is home to some of the world’s greatest superfruits–something that we should all be very proud of. With its rich tropical climate, the country is one of the world’s leading producers of coconut, pineapple, mangosteen, bananas, mangoes…superfruits that are all the rage in wellness and lifestyle conversations.

So if you think about it, fruits are great for our economy. They open doors for business opportunities, create livelihoods for local farmers and agricultural workers, and they’re great PR for the country!

And you can be part of this, as early as now. That small online business idea you came up with? You can grow it from within the confines of your room, or you could also study your way towards a career in agriculture. You can even support the industry by buying local fruits and fruit products.

So while fruits “saving the world” might be an exaggeration, there is no doubt that fruits have so much good to bring into our lives and into the world. And it’s up to us to make the most out of them. It’s never too early to start.

Together with Locally, we’re pretty sure you’ll find even more reasons to love fruits! Aside from eating them, of course. Don’t forget to share them with us!
